Wooden Walls Mural Project
On October 17th the Parlor Gallery and Sea Change AP will present an art exhibit and reception celebrating the completion of the Wooden Walls Mural Project at the Asbury Park Boardwalk. In addition to bringing attention to the murals existing at the Asbury Park's historic Carousel, Casino, and Steam Plant buildings, accompanying works by artists that participated in the 2015 mural project will be on display and available for purchase. Many participating artists as well as curators will be in attendance for a Q&A. The reception will take place from 5 PM 9PM at the Carousel Building, located at 700 Ocean Ave in Asbury Park, NJ. The event is free and open to the public.
The Wooden Walls Mural Project is a collaborative effort to bring public art to Asbury Park in an effort to enrich and add beauty to the community. By creating a conversation with local, national, and international artists Sea Change draws attention to the creative spirit that is fundamental to Asbury Park. Organizers recognize the town as a community that embraces creative endeavors and is appreciative of public art, and seek to promote the town's reputation to this end. The local, national, and international artists selected were co-curated by area residents Jenn Hampton of Parlor Gallery and John Herguth of Madison Marquette. Artists were chosen based on their organic connection to Asbury Park as well as their outstanding use of colors, ideas, techniques and media. Each artist is unique in their statement, imagery and technique, thus giving the viewer a well rounded selection of contemporary public art.
Participating artists include Tina Schwarz, Gilf!, Pork Chop, Harif Guzman, Hellbent, Shane Garron, Indie 184, Logan Hicks, Joe Iurato, Jose Mertz, and Pau Quintanajornet. Artists painted works of their own independent vision over the summer of 2015 at the Asbury Park Boardwalk.
