NEW WORK: To celebrate the spirit of community in New York, I’ve partner with @canadagoose to take over the vault space in their flagship Soho store. 📍🗽 101 Wooster Street, NYC 10012. Check it out in person 😷 Photos by @jeanlondondia for @canadagoose
As a New York based artist, Indie’s work is influenced by abstract expressionism and pop art. Her paintings are raptures of color and textures – fused with her original graffiti and street art, imagery and designs.
“This installation is the visualization of the strong and magical collective energy that New York emits. Even in the face of adversity, New York is resilient because of the strong sense of community that is amplified by our diversity, bravery and grit.” - indie
SOLIDARITY, 2020 is a recent work by Indie 184 which explores the magical collective energy of New York City. Juxtaposing several key artistic references within a bold, graffiti-influenced aesthetic stereotypical of Indie’s oeuvre, Solidarity aptly portrays the vibrant, beguiling and at times bewildering energy of the city of New York through a snapshot of its streets.
Energized with textual references to peace, love, tranquillity and freedom, SOLIDARITY was created to celebrate life, provide solidarity during the turbulent period brought by COVID-19, and examine the humanistic approaches of altruism and connectivity within New York during 2020. By forging several styles of graffiti together and utilizing several references to eras, movements and moments that have occurred in the New York, SOLIDARITY serves as a demonstration of the rich history of city, and a glimmer of hope for those unable to see through to the other side of the pandemic. Vibrant, light and laden with undecayed memories and histories, SOLIDARTY is a beacon; valiantly displaying the prowess of the city of New York and acting as a lodestar to guide its occupants back to its greatness. - Emerson Radisich
