The League of Women Voters of the City of New York (LWVNYC) was founded on June 2, 1919 as an outgrowth of the Women's Suffrage movement. We are a nonpartisan membership organization whose purpose is to promote informed and active participation in government. LWVNYC neither supports nor opposes candidates or political parties. As a non-profit organization, we rely on public-spirited individuals, businesses, and organizations to donate and fund our mission.
LWVNYC, has fought since 1920 to improve our government and impact public policy through citizen education and advocacy. Our enduring vitality comes from our unique decentralized structure; working at the national, state, and local levels. While the League's legislative priorities change to reflect the needs of society, our organization remains true to its basic purpose: to make democracy work for all citizen
